The Public Utility Transport Corporation (PUTCO) has confirmed that 47 of its buses were set alight and two workers injured in attacks at multiple depots in Mpumalanga.

According to PUTCO, incidents have been reported at four depots in the province. Initial investigations reveal that an unknown group of assailants ambushed security personnel at the Moloto depot, binding them before torching the buses and opening fire inside the facility.

The company has also received reports of buses being set on fire at additional depots in the region.

PUTCO is assessing the full extent of the damage and the impact on its operations, as investigations into the incidents continue.
