The department currently has a backlog of around 1, 600 pupils from four circuits including Polokwane, Mokopane, Tzaneen and Lephalale.
According to the department the majority of the applicants were not enrolled last year because their applications did not meet the necessary criteria.
Spokesperson Mike Maringa said all qualifying pupils will be placed by the 29th January.
“The Department is currently processing appeals and late applications received early this year when schools re-opened”
“The department wishes to assure parents that all qualifying learners will be accepted within the circuits they reside, and transport will be provided for those who stay outside the 5 kilometres radius” Maringa said.
He further appealed to parents and guardians against falsifying documents when applying.
“The Department has also noted that some parents are still submitting falsified documents and fraudulent addresses to secure space for their children who are not from the feeder zones”
“Falsifying documents is a criminal act and can result in cases being opened with the police” Maringa added.
