A 26-year-old doctor was shot during a burglary in the secure doctors’ quarters of Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Regional Hospital in QwaQwa, Free State. The incident happened on Tuesday, and the injured doctor is now recovering in intensive care after being rushed to surgery. Free State Health Department spokesperson Mondli Mvambi reported the break-in by unidentified assailants. Health Commissioner Mathabo Leeto expressed shock and condemned the act, highlighting that violent crime is detrimental to the country’s progress. She emphasized the need for increased security in health facilities and expressed gratitude for the doctor’s survival. An investigation is underway to prevent future incidents, ensuring safety within medical institutions.
