Baby girl dies and several missing in Eastern Cape floods

A baby girl and a man have tragically died in the Eastern Cape due to overnight flooding, with four others still missing, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) reported on Sunday. Storms caused extensive damage across the province, leading to 70 people being rescued in 55 different operations. Among these rescues, a man was safely recovered from an island in the Brak River after a vehicle with six occupants got stuck; one woman remains missing, while four others were safely recovered. Additionally, several ships breached moorings in Port Elizabeth Harbor and the Buffalo River in East London, leading to multiple jetties sinking or being washed away. The NSRI is continuing its rescue efforts, successfully aiding individuals trapped in buildings, homes, and vehicles. Port authorities are currently assessing the full extent of the damage to maritime infrastructure.
