The number of people who died in the shooting in Pienaar has increased from six to eight.
The shooting occurred on Saturday, January 11, at Dludlu Tavern at around 04:00.
According to a provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, six people were fatally shot at the scene. Two other victims, a male and a female, succumbed to their wounds later in hospital. Three other victims, two males and a female, are still receiving medical treatment.

“Two VW Polos were also found at the scene, riddled with bullet holes. One of the victims was found dead inside one of the vehicles. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown at this stage, and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation. There is a team of experts in the investigation field that has been assembled to investigate this incident. A 72-hour plan has been activated subsequent to the incident,” said Ndubane.

The MEC for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, said: “We condemn this barbaric and senseless loss of lives in the strongest possible terms. We are once more appealing that the police be given space and time to get to the bottom of the shootings. The perpetrators must be urgently arrested.
“We are again calling on liquor traders to always prioritise the safety of their patrons. We further extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, and we also wish those who were injured a speedy recovery.”
