Villagers in Limpopo are finally getting the green light for the long-awaited road

During the handover of the D3810 road project on May 12, 2024, Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga urged citizens to vote under the slogan ‘#NoXikontiriNoVote.’ At Ndindani village, she presented Matiko Holdings with the contract for the road construction, leading to mixed reactions. While some residents were pleased, others were disgruntled due to the Giyani Mayor’s failure to acknowledge all traditional chiefs appropriately.

The event faced disruptions as residents expressed dissatisfaction but resumed after calls for calm. Minister Chikunga emphasized cooperation between the community and the contractor, warning against financial misconduct related to the R263 million project.

The project, marred by delays and allegations of corruption, has caused a divide among the five local villages. The new oversight committee claims the old committee and local ANC officials are hindering progress. The new committee has halted recruitment by ANC’s Ward 19 chairman, accusing improper hiring practices. As construction awaits, community discord continues.
