Western Cape ‘hold by die blou’ as DA majority of votes so far muse

Alan Winde will serve another term as Premier of the Western Cape after the Democratic Alliance (DA) secured a majority in the province. DA Western Cape leader, Tertuis Simmers, expressed gratitude towards the electorate, highlighting the party’s 54.63% majority with a significant number of votes yet to be counted. Simmers aims to surpass the 2019 results of 55.45%.

Throughout the campaign, there were concerns about the DA potentially losing its majority due to issues like the party’s stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict and the rise of the Patriotic Alliance. Despite these challenges, Simmers emphasized the DA’s focus on addressing the real issues affecting all citizens, promoting a constructive and positive approach.

The opposition landscape has shifted, with the Patriotic Alliance and the National Colored Congress making notable gains. Simmers is optimistic about the diverse political representation in the legislature but cautions against racially or ethnically based politics, advocating for inclusive governance for all communities.
