Prime Minister Thami Ntuli Forms Multi-Party Cabinet in KZN, Focuses on Crime and Service Delivery

Thami Ntuli, the newly elected Prime Minister of KwaZulu-Natal, has swiftly formed a multi-party cabinet to lead the province for the next five years. Ntuli’s cabinet includes members from his Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), as well as the ANC, Democratic Alliance (DA), and one representative from the National Freedom Party (NFP). The coalition holds a majority with 41 seats, while the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) opposed the unity government.

Ntuli has prioritized tackling crime and improving service delivery, particularly in politically troubled areas like the eThekwini metro. To address high murder rates, he has separated public security from the Department of Transport, placing it under his office. The Prime Minister also involved leaders from former rival parties in his cabinet, appointing experienced IFP veteran Musa Zondi and other key figures to strategic roles. Ntuli emphasized unity and service to the people of KwaZulu-Natal in his inaugural speech, committing to performance monitoring and seeking consensus. Meanwhile, the MK party plans to challenge his election in court.
