Phalaborwa coach leads Limpopo to national victory | Herald

LIMPOPO – Maverick Sedibe, head coach of the Limpopo Impalas u/19 women’s cricket team from Namakgale, said he is very excited after his team won the national u/19 championship.

The provincial team triumphed in all five of their games during the Cricket South Africa (CSA) National Week held at Kearsney College in KwaZulu-Natal earning them a promotion from the Gold league to the Platinum league next year.

Three Limpopo players, Shakra Malatji from Namakgale and Shelfa Mukhari from Nkambako near Letsitele, have been selected for the CSA league.

Sedibe said he is excited to be the first coach in the province to break the curse of no Limpopo team winning all their games at the national tournaments.

“We are looking forward to next year, where we plan to start with the preparations as early as we can.”

Acting CEO and Cricket Services manager Tshepo Mangena also expressed his excitement, highlighting the monumental moment for cricket in the province.

He praised the team’s historic success as a testament to the players’ hard work and dedication, the coaching staff’s vision, and the commitment to developing women’s cricket in Limpopo.

“We are immensely proud of them for rewriting the record books and proving that girls’ cricket in Limpopo is on an upward trajectory that many doubted,” he said.

The team management congratulated the coaching team, led by head coach Sedibe, and assistant coaches Blessing Mabunda and Sanine Vermuelen. This victory has solidified a promising future for women’s cricket in Limpopo.
