POLOKWANE – At just 31 years old, Lebogang Denny Motimele has landed a role on one of South Africa’s national television soapies, marking a milestone in his acting career.
With a degree in administration and an arts honours degree from the University of Limpopo, Motimele’s journey into acting is as inspiring as it is unconventional.
His love for acting began in primary school, where he was a standout member of drama clubs and earned the nickname ‘Mayibuye’.
By high school, he had taken on the role of drama director, leading activities like drama, poetry, and storytelling, and even securing multiple provincial competition trophies.
“I was active in community theatre productions, participating in events like the Heritage Arts and Culture Festival at the University of Limpopo and others hosted by the Polokwane Municipality,” Motimele said.
His dedication extended to storytelling, Sepedi praise poetry, and starring in productions such as ‘The Great and the Stars’ and the Polokwane Performing Arts Ensemble, led by Caiphus Mathiba. These projects took him across the province and eventually to national and international stages with LadiMash Production, led by Mashupe Phala.
Motimele credits his late brother, Lucky Tloubatla, as his biggest inspiration.
Tloubatla recognised Motimele’s potential early on, encouraging him to pursue acting and instilling the determination that fueled his success.
His big break came with a guest role on the popular soapie Skeem Saam as a marriage officer. “I got a call from casting director Thabo Mkhabela, who was familiar with my work, asking me to audition for the role of a 40-year-old marriage officer. I submitted my audition clip and was thrilled to hear I had been selected,” says Motimele.
“I hope my journey inspires others to chase their dreams with unwavering determination,” he concluded.
