The ANC will decide whether that is the case Mayor of Matjhabeng Municipality in the Free State, Thanduxiolo Khalipha should continue in office or step aside. This after the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court imposed on him a fine of R5,000 or three months’ imprisonment for common assault, as well as a prison sentence of two and three months or R3,000 for two counts of criminal wounding.
He attacked his bodyguards as they tried to remove him from an angry crowd during an Imbizo in Kutlwanong in February this year.
There have been calls for the party to remove him.
Disgruntled residents also took to the streets to pressure the ruling party to oust him. Throughout the case, the ANC’s provincial leadership has maintained that Khalipha still holds his mayoral position.
