Signature Deli in Douglas recently secured the title of South African Champion for its yoghurt drink at the South African Dairy Championships. Competing for the first time since its start in August 2022, the deli excelled in three categories. Their double cream drinking yoghurt and choc chip flavor won the Y16 full cream drinking yoghurt with spices category. The awards ceremony occurred on April 25 in the Western Cape.
Signature Deli, employing cheesemakers Cyril van den Heever and Nelma van Staden, earned third place in the C48 feta with spices category with its goat’s milk product. Their vanilla yogurt, also goat’s milk-based, secured another third place in the Y24 category. Founded to add value to local farms, the delicatessen has expanded, distributing products to selected Spar and other stores across regions.
Agri-Expo’s managing director, Breyton Milford, highlighted the competition’s 1,029 entries from 78 producers, emphasizing its role in promoting dairy excellence.
