South African water crisis | Gauteng residents are preparing for weeks of maintenance work

Residents in Gauteng and parts of the Northwest face potential water cuts over the next five weeks due to scheduled maintenance by bulk supplier Rand Water. Beginning this Saturday, the maintenance will run until the end of July. Though a complete water supply cut is not anticipated, residents are taking precautionary measures. Four key Rand Water systems will be impacted: Eikenhof, Zwartkopjes, and Palmiet will be affected first, from June 22-28. Palmiet’s system will also undergo further maintenance in July, along with Mapleton. Rand Water has called on affected municipalities to ensure that consumers are kept well-informed throughout this period. This situation is reported by Hloni Mtimkulu from eNCA.
