Teacher and Children Among Six Fatalities in KZN Ambush

A tragic ambush in the Ezakheni community near Ladysmith on Monday evening claimed six lives, including that of a primary school teacher from Ngcede Primary School, Ms. Dusi, and her two children. KwaZulu-Natal education MEC Sipho Hlomuka confirmed the fatalities while provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda reported that police were on the lookout for an unknown number of suspects involved in the shooting.

The attack occurred on Helpmekaar Road when a vehicle approached a bakkie carrying twelve people and its occupants opened fire. Among the deceased were a 37-year-old woman, two 17-year-olds, a 15-year-old, and two girls aged five and two. Four others, including two men and three women, were injured and transported to the hospital. A 21-year-old woman escaped unharmed.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact their nearest police station or call Crime Stop at 08600-10111.
