The South African Weather Service has warned of very high temperatures across the country, rising by a third seasonal heat wave is expected to affect seven provinces throughout the week.

SABC meteorologist Joel Guy outlined the severe weather forecast and noted prolonged periods of extreme heat in several regions.

“It will be a long, hot week for South Africans in at least seven provinces. Residents in parts of the north-west and northern parts of the Free State can expect high temperatures until Wednesday – while residents of KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga can prepare for scorching weather until at least Friday. Extremely high fire danger conditions are also forecast for several areas,” says Guy.

Residents are advised to take precautions as the heat wave continues.
