Lazarus Mokgosi of the ANC is sworn in as Prime Minister of NW

JOHANNESBURG — The African National Congress (ANC) continues to lead in the North West legislature, securing top positions. Lazarus Mokgosi has been elected Prime Minister, Desbo Mohono appointed Chairman, and Tshepo Khoza, the ANC provincial chairman, named Deputy Chairman. The ANC upheld its majority with over 58% of the vote in this year’s general election. The elections for Mokgosi and Mohono were uncontested.

Despite facing challenges like poor service delivery and high unemployment, Mokgosi praised former Prime Minister Bushy Maape, vowing to follow his leadership principles. “Honourable Prime Minister Maape, the lessons of your leadership will be the guiding principles we navigate over the next five years,” Mokgosi stated. He also pledged to address unemployment with a labor activation program as his first initiative.
