Angry residents of Bloemfontein in the Free State have looted goods from foreign-owned spaza shops.
This follows an incident where 47 students from Ihobe Primary School were rushed to Pelonomi Hospital after allegedly consuming expired cookies and chocolates believed to have been purchased from some stores.
Residents have called on the government to deploy health inspectors to wholesale and spa shops in the area.
They say the government should take charge and implement safety measures in spaza shops and not wait for the situation to worsen.
