HLUHLUWE – Border crossings have resumed at the Lebombo Port of Entry, but only in one direction.
WATCH | Lebombo border post closed following Mozambique unrest
Vehicles are being allowed to cross into Mozambique, but travellers from that country are still not able to cross back in to South Africa.
Protests on the Mozambican side of the border saw vehicles being torched, forcing border management to shut the port of entry.
Immigration and visa processing facilities on the Mozambican side were reportedly burned and damaged in the protests.
Border management say they’re continuing to monitor the situation and are not ruling out another closure.
The country has been rocked by clashes following disputes over the recent election results.
Border management commissioner Mike Masiapato says their main concern is the safety of travellers.
