Food safety | Calls to strengthen spaza shop regulations

DURBAN – Pressure is mounting on the government to strengthen the regulation of spaza shops and promote public health awareness in South Africa. 

This comes amid rising food poisoning cases involving young children.

An investigation led by the Health Department and the National Institute of Communicable Diseases has found an illegal chemical in the Naledi food poisoning cases. 

Government has promised to thoroughly investigate and act to protect South Africans from preventable illnesses.
