At least one person has been confirmed dead, and more than 20 injured following a multiple-vehicle pile-up during this morning’s peak traffic in Thohoyandou. The accident occurred around 08:40 at the busy Khoroni Hotel/Ratshitanga Avenue traffic lights.
Although details surrounding the crash are still unclear, reports from the scene indicate that a bus from a well-known company, ferrying passengers from Sibasa towards Thohoyandou, lost control down the steep incline on Ratshitanga Drive and ploughed into traffic waiting at the four-way traffic lights. This included a minibus taxi.Â
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals and clinics, while the police cordoned off the area to allow them, along with pathologists, to conduct their preliminary investigation. This led to major traffic congestion, with motorists urged to use alternative routes to reach their destinations.

It remains unclear how long the road will be closed, as emergency services still need to clear the scene. Motorists are advised to check if the route is open before traveling to the area.
