DA wants Lesufi to suspend Chiloane amid fraud allegations

The call follows a report in the Mail & Guardian, which claims that Chiloane was involved in a R27 million fraud case linked to former ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe.

The report claims that Chiloane allegedly received R185,000 from a fraudulent vehicle tender while coordinating the infrastructure and transformation cluster in Ekurhuleni.

Mabe has been arrested and is due back in court next year.

The DA’s Sergio Isa Dos Santos said the premier cannot just hope the issue disappears.

“The DA has repeatedly urged the premier to release the lifestyle audits publicly.

“His failure to act raises concerns about either grave negligence or a deliberate attempt to conceal corruption and protect the corrupt in his administration.

“Additionally, the Premier should explain why his MECs, many of whom have a history of incompetence and scandalous behaviour, have not been thoroughly vetted.”

Dos Santos believes the premier should also suspend Chiloane pending an NPA investigation into the allegations.

“It is unacceptable that Premier Lesufi is quick to investigate non-existent racism claims but slow to publicise lifestyle audits which are gathering dust in his office.”

The DA will also write to the Gauteng provincial legislature’s education committee to request that Chiloane appear before it, and explain his involvement in these allegations.
