This was caused by trees falling onto the structures, resulting in injuries. The injured residents were taken to hospital for treatment.
A team from Disaster Management is on site, assessing the situation.
In Clairwood, around 50 structures have been affected, though no injuries or fatalities have been reported. However, there has been significant water ingress.
Disaster Management, along with a team from Water and Sanitation, is currently assessing the damage.
The municipality’s emergency services continue to monitor and provide assistance to affected areas as the heavy rain persists.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has indicated that the Level 6 weather warning remains in effect.
Forecast models show that light to moderate rainfall is expected throughout the rest of the day, with similar conditions predicted between 5pm and 8pm on Tuesday, October 22, peaking around 7pm.
Light rainfall is expected across eThekwini, with heavier rainfall anticipated in the northern and western regions. Due to the rainfall over the past 24 hours, there is an increased risk of localised flooding in vulnerable areas within the municipality.
