Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube noted at a briefing on Sunday that 70 part-time monitors have been hired to monitor high-risk examination centers to “prevent irregularities such as group copying or leakage of examinations”.

Gwarube emphasized the need for communities to extend their full support to graduates during this crucial period.

These are important exams for our students and we want to ensure there is no disruption – no protests in schools and no protests in our communities.

“We must isolate our students as much as possible from outside disturbances. Protesting is a democratically protected right, but our centers and schools are national assets,” she said.

In a statement released by the presidency on Sunday, Ramaphosa expressed his pride in the students’ journey, acknowledging the support they have received along the way from parents, teachers, friends and neighbors.

“You started as the first class of 2012 and have succeeded so far with the help of so many people around you who support and applaud the work you have done so far,” Ramaphosa said.

He encouraged graduates to reflect on the knowledge they have acquired over the years and approach the exams with confidence.

He also urged them to trust their abilities and reminded them that they are meant to succeed.

Ramaphosa said these studies are a gateway to future opportunities rather than an obstacle.

He also advised the students not to shy away from asking for help during difficult moments, assuring them that support will be available from those around them.

Students should not be afraid to ask for help from those around them, because they will receive support.

Final exam results for the Class of 2024 are expected to be released on January 14, 2025.
