MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Thulasizwe Buthelezi has urged all residents to heed these weather warnings as they “pose a potential threat to human life.”
Buthelezi said disaster management teams have been activated in all municipalities that will monitor areas and communities prone to weather-related incidents.
Buthelezi has also issued a directive to municipalities to activate their disaster management plans.
Residents are urged not to cross flooded footpaths or roads and to use extreme caution when driving as roads may become slippery. They are also advised to stay informed about weather and road conditions through reliable sources.
Disaster management teams are fully activated and prepared to provide assistance as needed, the department said.
