One person died after an accident between a car and a bus on the N8 in the Free State. The accident took place in the early hours of Saturday (May 19) at around 4.50am. Free State police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli said Botshabelo police were called to the N8 by a caller who reportedly spoke of a bus accident.
The officers rushed to the scene and upon arrival discovered that two vehicles were involved: a bus carrying passengers heading towards Bloemfontein and a blue VW Polo vehicle heading towards Botshabelo.

Preliminary investigation has shown that the vehicles collided head-on. The VW driver (40) died on the spot and his female passenger was rushed to hospital. No one on the bus was injured. The police opened a case of culpable homicide for further investigation.
