Gauteng Health Department lauds ‘safe hands training programme’

JOHANNESBURG – The Gauteng Health Department has lauded the launch of its “safe hands training programme” which aims to improve mother and child hygiene.

The program was launched on Thursday at the Melrose Arch, where healthcare workers such as nurses and midwives gathered to learn about the importance of hygiene in reducing preventable infections.

The department says this programme was piloted across 16 health facilities comprising hospitals and clinics in Gauteng to roll it out to other provinces.

“This initiative is not only aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 3, which seeks to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing, but it also supports the South African government’s National Development Plan 2030, which includes reducing maternal and child mortality,” said Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko.
