POLOKWANE – A police sergeant and a civilian made a brief appearance in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with the murder of a taxi owner in 2020.
The taxi owner, Tlou Phihlela (41), was shot multiple times near the Seshego Hospital on October 18, 2020 and his murder sparked an extensive investigation by the provincial Murder and Robbery Unit.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said renewed investigative efforts during this year identified the suspects and a warrant for their arrest was applied for and granted on Tuesday (October 1).
Herbet Modiba (46) and Victor Mashakeng (49) were arrested on Wednesday and both abandoned bail during their court appearance on Thursday.
“The case has been postponed to November 13 pending further police investigation,” his statement read.
Ledwaba added that further investigations revealed the suspects were allegedly hired by another taxi owner from Seshego, who was murdered in April 2023 in Polokwane.
