JOHANNESBURG – Impeached Judge President John Hlophe has been barred from taking part in the next Judicial Service Commission meeting.
That’s the ruling by the Western Cape High on Friday.
Early this month the Democratic Alliance,Corruption Watch and Freedom Under Law applied to stop him taking up a seat at the JSC October meeting.
This pending a review of the National Assembly’s decision to appoint him to the commission.
They argued that it was irrational for Hlophe to be a part of the body that interviews judges for vacancies, and disciplines members of the judiciary, after he himself was impeached.
Hlophe was sworn in as a member of Parliament for the Umkhonto weSizwe Party in June.
