The statement said: “The department has been in contact with the South African Weather Service, who have confirmed that previous weather forecasts indicate that the province will experience extremely low temperatures in the coming days, which could potentially lead to snowfall in some areas around the Drakensberg, including parts of Harry Gwala, uThukela, uMgungundlovu and Amajuba districts.”

“While this is a preliminary forecast, further updates are expected.”

“Residents in the province can rest assured that the Provincial Disaster Management Centre will continue to liaise directly with stakeholders including municipalities through their respective District Disaster Management Centres, social partners and government agencies responsible for law enforcement, disaster management and roads to ensure that plans are in place to deal with all eventualities should weather conditions deteriorate.”

Residents are advised to monitor weather forecasts from reliable sources.
