The world’s longest zipline has been launched near Caledon in the Overberg region of the Western Cape.
The 3.2 kilometre zipline takes over the title from Dubai which stands at 2.8 kilometres. It descends to the ground from 500 metres high up in the Caledon Mountains and can reach speeds of over 100 kilometres an hour.
The zipline is expected to attract adrenaline junkies from across the world and will boost the local economy.
For adrenalin junkie, Pierre Steyn, it’s an unforgettable adventure.
“It feels like flying, it really does. You just wanna put your arms out and pretend you’re Superman. So it’s over quite quickly. It’s 3km, it’s a 3 minute ride down. And before you know it you’ve reached the end and you want to turn around and do it again.”

The new zipline will also boost the local economy through tourism.
Provincial Tourism Minister Ivan Meyer says,”I’m particularly excited. This is now a global asset for SA. My job is to grow the economy and create a R1 trillion economy. Part of that frowning of that economy is to create a 5 % GDP growth in the Western Cape. To do that I need to triple our tourism and this will help us greatly to achieve our tourism targets.”
