UPDATED TRAFFIC ADVICE
Road reopened to relieve traffic at Van Reenen’s Pass

KwaZulu-Natal, September 22, 2024 – The road has been REOPENED to relieve traffic at Van Reenen’s Pass, the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) and its concessionaire, the N3 Toll Concession (Pty) Ltd (N3TC), have announced.

The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) and N3TC Route Services are now beginning to slowly divert stranded road users from the area via the southbound lanes (towards KwaZulu-Natal).

Recovery workers and rescue teams are still working to clear safe passage for stranded road users in the Swinburne/Montrose area.
“Please remain patient as the next phase of the rescue and recovery operation is completed,” said Vusi Mona, SANRAL General Manager of Communications and Marketing.

Road users are advised to carefully follow the instructions of rescue teams and traffic controllers once they are given permission to proceed.
Drive slowly and with the utmost caution and care.

“As we prepare to reopen the N3 Toll Route, SANRAL and N3TC would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the disaster management organisations, road incident management teams, humanitarian groups, local farmers and community associations who have provided emergency services and essential assistance to stranded motorists. Your selfless efforts are an example of dedication and compassion in action. You are the true heroes of the N3 Toll Route,” said Thania Dhoogra, N3TC Director of Operations.

“We would also like to thank all road users who remained patient, vigilant and compliant under very difficult circumstances,” said Mona.
“It has been an extremely difficult time for everyone affected, but you have been phenomenal in showing resilience and strength of spirit,” Dhoogra said.
