Avoid all travel: Motorists are being urged to postpone holiday plans as icy conditions and snow block key routes

Rescue workers were called to the N3 Toll Route along the Van Reenen Pass on Saturday morning after it was completely closed between Estcourt and Harrismith due to heavy snow, icy conditions and poor visibility. Traffic authorities said motorists were urged to avoid KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and surrounding regions as dangerous conditions persisted. Several trucks and vehicles are stuck on the road, with backlogs stretching to kilometres.
