Mother ‘freezes’ newborn, goes to drink | Daily Sun

Woman from Odendaal allegedly put newborn baby in the refrigerator.

A 24-year-old tenant has shocked the neighborhood.

This is said to have happened after she hid her newborn baby in the refrigerator before going out for a night of drinking with friends.

She did not appear at the court in Odendaal on Monday, September 16.

The suspected woman was arrested on Wednesday, September 11, after her landlord, Moeketsi Sebotho, made a gruesome discovery of a newborn baby in the freezer used by the suspect.

Captain Stephen Thakeng said the newborn’s body was found wearing a tracksuit, in a plastic bag and already frozen when police arrived at the scene.

“The suspect was not home when the baby was found. The newborn was pronounced dead by paramedics,” he said.

Thakeng said the woman has been released from police custody.

“We can confirm that the 24-year-old mother never appeared in Odendaalsrus District Court, which is why she was released. A thorough investigation has been launched through DNA testing and the case will be put back on the court roll,” he said.

NPA spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane said the suspect could not appear in court as her case was not registered and the police investigation was still ongoing.

Meanwhile, landlord Moeketsi Sebotho has told Daily sun that the incident traumatized him.

“I am asking for professional psychosocial support. I am traumatized. The incident has shocked me. I have decided to give the refrigerator to the parents of the perpetrator,” he said.
