Police Minister unveils plans to deal with extortion

CAPE TOWN – Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says police are intensifying efforts to root out the mafia in four provinces.

He was addressing Parliament on his plans to deal with the proliferation of extortion syndicates.

There has been a sharp increase in reports of protection rackets in the country.

Mchunu says loopholes in the criminal justice system must be closed.

He says this allows many of them to escape justice.

The Minister is also advising police to continue taking tough action against criminals.
