Eastern Cape police have arrested three suspects in connection with an alleged petrol bomb attack on a ward councillor’s home in the Tsitsikamma area approximately two weeks ago.
The councillor’s house was allegedly targeted in the attack, which resulted in the property being destroyed by fire.
Early on Wednesday, police acting on intelligence intercepted an SUV along the R102 in Coldstream. During a search, officers discovered that the vehicle had false number plates and a fraudulent licence disc.
Police spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana said officers found petrol, cloth, empty glass liquor bottles and a lighter inside the vehicle. The items are suspected to have been intended for use in a crime.
Three suspects, including a woman related to the councillor whose home was destroyed and two men, were arrested at the scene.
The suspects face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and possession of stolen property.
Police seized the vehicle and recovered items, including the suspected petrol, for chemical analysis and further investigation.
