Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a 33-year-old man who was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds following an alleged altercation in Mhluzi, Mpumalanga.
The suspects, aged 23 and 32, were arrested shortly after the incident, which occurred at Extension 2 in Mhluzi, Nkangala District, on Friday, October 30, 2026, at approximately 8.40pm.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe said officers stationed at Mhluzi SAPS had initially responded to a complaint about a fight in the area.
Upon arriving at the premises, police were approached by the victim’s mother, who informed them that her son had allegedly been involved in an altercation with a tenant before leaving the property.
“The officers and the victim’s mother were on the way to the Police Station to open a case, but the woman requested to return home, indicating that she would come back on Monday,” Nonyane-Mpe said.
However, what began as a complaint about an altercation soon turned into a murder investigation.
Victim found lying in pool of blood
Nonyane-Mpe said police were transporting the woman back home when community members stopped them and reported that her son had been stabbed.
Officers immediately proceeded to the scene, where they discovered the 33-year-old man lying in a pool of blood.
“Upon arrival at the scene, Police found the victim lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds on the body. He was unfortunately certified dead at the scene,” Nonyane-Mpe said.
A sharp object believed to have been used in the attack was also confiscated.
“It was during this time when the two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident. The motive for the incident is yet to be established, and investigations are continuing,” she said.
Suspects expected in court on Monday
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, November 2, 2026, in connection with the murder.
Mpumalanga Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise commended the officers for their swift response and the arrests.
“We appreciate the quick reaction by our members and the cooperation of the community. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that perpetrators of serious crimes are brought to book, to face the full might of the law,” Modise said in a statement issued by Nonyane-Mpe.
Modise also appealed to members of the public to assist investigators with any information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
“We also appeal to community members to assist Police with any information regarding the case,” she said.
