Lesufi also confirmed progress on four previously stalled directives, which have now moved into the implementation phase.
He says this reflects further progress in the province’s GBVF response since the mid-October review.
“Today is the 1st of November. It is approximately day 33 of the 90-day period that the president gave us. The technical steering committee of our province continues to meet every week. Of the 67 specific directives across the five work streams, 21 have been fully completed, 38 are underway, and 8 have not yet started.
Key interventions include the deployment of GBV response teams across 122 high-risk areas, strengthened police investigations and efforts to clear forensic backlogs.
Lesufi said the province has also conducted inspections in more than 7 300 liquor outlets
He says all three metros have reported full compliance with municipal safety standards.
“Key regional achievements include Johannesburg mapping major risk zones and preparing ten previously hijacked or illegally occupied buildings for public reuse. Tshwane cleared extensive overgrown vegetation surrounding high-risk transit stations to enhance commuter safety. Ekurhuleni completed inspections across all local taxi ranks, identifying and flagging broken CCTV systems for repair. Additionally, every municipality across the West Rand district has successfully catalogued high-risk structures and neglected public spaces.”
