IEC captures 25% of Western Cape ballots

The count of votes cast in the Western Cape is moving along swiftly, with around 25 percent of the vote captured by the Electoral Commission.

25 councils are up for grabs in the province, with the City of Cape Town the crown jewel for the DA.

In an early blow for the blue machine, however, the Patriotic Alliance has swooped to victory in Prince Albert, but not quite enough votes for an outright majority.

The DA appears to be retaining wards previously held in the city and holding steady in the outlying areas, having attained almost 60 percent of the votes counted so far.

Only 13 percent of the vote has been counted in the city, which makes up roughly 70 percent of the voting bloc in the province.

On a provincial level, the Patriotic Alliance and the ANC are neck and neck, each having secured around 10 percent of the votes counted so far.

But it’s the PA that’s leading in actual vote numbers.
