The Gauteng Portfolio Committee on Safety says law enforcement visibility should be prioritised in identified high-risk voting stations and areas.
Ahead of this week’s local government elections, the committee has highlighted that political intimidation should not be tolerated.
Political parties are urged to safeguard the democratic right to vote.
The committee has emphasised that citizens should cast their votes without interference or pressure.

“The committee stresses that no political contest is worth a single life lost and no political difference justifies violence, intimidation or the destruction of community relations. Elections are an essential pillar of democracy and must provide every eligible voter with the freedom to make an informed choice without fear, threats or intimidation,” said committee chairperson Thebe Khumalo.
