The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) has announced that its council has approved a no-fee application process for prospective students applying for the 2027 academic year.

The university confirmed this in a statement released on Wednesday.

It urged prospective candidates to take advantage of this opportunity and submit their applications before the closing dates:

  • November 30 2026: Applications close for undergraduate programmes, advanced diplomas, honours degrees, and postgraduate diplomas.
  • January 30 2027: Applications close for master’s and doctoral programmes.

“The public is strongly cautioned against individuals who may try to exploit this decision by requesting payment in exchange for admission, application processing, preferential treatment, waiting-list placement, or student accommodation. No person can guarantee admission to the university in exchange for payment,” the university stated.

UMP specifically flagged a fraudulent email scam which is circulating that demands a payment of R3,500 to secure admission.

Applicants were urged to apply using the official university application website, never pay any individual or unauthorised third party for an application fee or to secure admission, never share a student number, PIN or any other confidential information, and verify any suspicious admission-related requests with the university.
