Ralph Standfield trial: Security supervisor grilled in Western Cape High Court over BMW theft

The charges form part of a broader racketeering and gang-related trial involving alleged members of “the firm”.

The state alleges Stanfield and some of his co-accused were also involved in several high-profile murders, including City of Cape Town official Wendy Kloppers and hard-living gang boss Rashied Staggie.

Prosecutors claim Stanfield falsely represented himself to a police officer as the lawful owner of the vehicle, while Johnson allegedly made the same claim.

A security supervisor who worked at the complex, and cannot be named for safety reasons, told the court that Johnson relayed to him that the car and R1 million were stolen from her and Stanfield.

Johnson’s lawyer, Bruce Hendricks, told the witness there were inconsistencies in his testimony.

Hendricks: “I put it to you that essential evidence of this testimony, you cannot remember.”

Witness: “What is contained in the statement, I remember.”

The matter is set to proceed tomorrow.
