A manhunt is underway following a deadly mass shooting at an informal settlement in Willowvale, in the Eastern Cape.
Five young men aged between 17 and 22 were shot dead on Tuesday night, while a 30-year-old man was seriously wounded.
Police said three armed men kicked down the door of a two-room flat before opening fire on the victims at around 10pm.
Eastern Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Vuyisile Ncata was expected to visit the crime scene on Wednesday before chairing a meeting aimed at coordinating the hunt for the attackers.
Police spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana said the motive for the attack remained unknown.
“Cases of murder, five counts, and attempted murder are being investigated. The SAPS strongly condemns this senseless attack. Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact the investigating team, Willowvale SAPS, or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”
