Eastern Cape police have deployed additional resources to investigate the fatal shooting of a 63-year-old Mbhashe local municipality councillor at his homestead in Dutywa.
Ernest Fipaza, 63, was gunned down at his homestead in Bende locality, Taleni Administrative Area, Dutywa, on Friday night.
Police are investigating a case of murder with an additional charge of house robbery.
According to police, two unknown suspects arrived at Fipaza’s home at about 7.30pm on Friday and argued with him.
The argument escalated into a physical altercation, and it is alleged one suspect drew a firearm and fatally shot him.
The suspects allegedly also pointed firearms at Fipaza’s son and demanded the deceased’s firearm.
“They were shown a safe, which they broke open, but did not find a firearm before fleeing the scene,” said police spokesperson Brig Nobuntu Gantana.
Gantana said the suspects are at large.
Eastern Cape police commissioner Lt-Gen Vuyisile Ncata condemned the fatal shooting and announced the deployment of maximum resources to strengthen the local investigation team.
