Western Cape police honour late Captain Zamani Mzayiya in Green Point

The family of the slain police officer sat quietly in mourning under a gazebo as the first phase of the mourning procession got underway.

The ceremony was filled with police protocol, with officers saluting as three colleagues carried wreaths to honour Mzayiya.

Chaplain Vuyani Jakavula led the service.

“We built a world around this member, so it is not easy, even for us, to find ourselves in this kind of experience,” Jakavula said.

The memorial procession then made its way to Customs House, where a memorial service was held.
