South Africans can expect a mostly dry Wednesday, with morning fog across several provinces, warmer conditions in the west and extremely high fire danger in parts of the Western Cape.
Only limited drizzle is forecast along the eastern escarpment, with no widespread rain expected.
The South African Weather Service has issued no impact-based warnings or advisories for Wednesday. However, extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Laingsburg Local Municipality in the Western Cape.
Morning fog will affect several eastern and central parts of the country.
Gauteng will see fog patches in the south during the morning before becoming partly cloudy and cool. No rain is forecast, while the UVB sunburn index will be high.
Mpumalanga will experience morning fog along the escarpment and in places over the Highveld. Conditions will otherwise be partly cloudy and cool to cold, with drizzle along the escarpment.
Limpopo will also see morning fog and drizzle along the escarpment. The rest of the province will be cloudy and cool to warm before becoming partly cloudy during the afternoon.
The North West will initially be cloudy in the north before becoming partly cloudy and cool, while the Free State will have morning fog in the east followed by partly cloudy and cool conditions.
The Northern Cape will have morning fog along the coast, with partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions elsewhere. Western areas will remain fine, with hot temperatures expected in places.
Along the Northern Cape coast, moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly winds are forecast.
The Western Cape will be fine and warm to hot for much of the day, although morning fog is expected along the west coast. Partly cloudy conditions will develop over the south-west and south coast from the afternoon.
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in the Laingsburg Local Municipality, making this the country’s main severe weather concern for Wednesday.
The Western Cape’s UVB sunburn index will be very high.
Both halves of the Eastern Cape will experience partly cloudy and generally warm to hot weather, although cooler conditions are expected in the extreme northern and north-western areas.
In the western half, coastal winds will initially be light to moderate north-westerly before becoming south-westerly from the west, while north-easterly winds are expected east of Algoa Bay.
The eastern half will experience light to moderate north-easterly winds along the coast.
KwaZulu-Natal will have morning fog patches over the interior before partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions settle in.
Moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly winds are expected along the coast, while the UVB sunburn index will be very high.
Overall, widespread rainfall is not expected on Wednesday. Drizzle will be confined mainly to the Mpumalanga and Limpopo escarpments, while much of the rest of South Africa remains dry under partly cloudy to fine conditions.
