Over 100 illegal miners arrested in Gauteng

FOCHVILLE – A total of 121 suspected illegal miners were arrested on Tuesday during a joint operation conducted in Maphahla village within the Fochville policing precinct. 

During the operation, authorities also recovered five firearms, including three pistols, an AK-47 and a self-made pistol.

Other illegal mining tools, phendukas, gas bottles and gold-bearing material. 

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said Operation Prosper continues to target illegal mining activities and associated criminality in Gauteng.
