Princess Adjei, a Ghanian hairdresser who has been living in Durban for over a decade, said it’s difficult to leave the city.
“We came into this world empty-handed, so whenever you can start the journey, you have to start and when you are somewhere where you feel you are not wanted, you need to move, so I’m happy.”
Congolese refugee Robert Bhabi said he’s also hopeful things will be better in another province.
“But what can you do? Maybe there it will be better because here there is a lot of xenophobia in KwaZulu-Natal.”
Eyewitness News understands that some of the refugees and asylum seekers who have been camping on Che Guevara Road will not be travelling to Gauteng and have chosen to stay in Durban.
