Gauteng will remain cold and unsettled into Tuesday, with showers still possible as a cut-off low continues to affect parts of the country.
Johannesburg is expecting a cold start to the new week, with conditions expected to improve as the weather system gradually weakens.
Emergency services are urging residents to remain vigilant, particularly when using heating devices to keep warm.
A cut-off low continues to bring cold and unsettled conditions to parts of the country, with heavy rain, strong winds, hail and lightning possible in some areas.
In Johannesburg, conditions are expected to improve from Tuesday afternoon, with cooler temperatures and cloudy skies giving way to more settled conditions.
But as residents turn to heaters and paraffin stoves to keep warm, Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) is warning of the fire risks associated with these devices.
“Our residents are also encouraged to look after heating devices like heaters and paraffin stoves, not to leave them unattended while in use, so we can prevent fire incidents which might occur at home during these extremely cold temperatures,” said spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.
Emergency services are also urging residents to take extra precautions while the cold weather persists, particularly in homes using alternative sources of heat.
