The agreement establishes a framework for long term interprovincial cooperation to support sustainable development, economic growth and the implementation of strategic renewable energy projects across the two provinces.

The Koruson cluster spans the provincial boundary and comprises the 420 MW Koruson 1 project, developed by EDF power solutions, and the 520 MW Koruson 2 project, developed by Envusa Energy.

The MOU provides a structured mechanism for collaboration between the provincial governments and closer coordination with the Pixley Ka Seme District Municipality in the Northern Cape and the Chris Hani District Municipality in the Eastern Cape.

It will support joint planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on development initiatives linked to the projects. The objective is to maximise the long term benefits of renewable energy investment for communities in both provinces.

Infrastructure associated with the Koruson projects, as well as beneficiary communities and long term economic development and socioeconomic development commitments, extends across both provinces. This requires coordinated provincial engagement and oversight throughout the lifespan of the projects.

The signing took place during an event held at the Koruson cluster. It was attended by senior representatives of both provincial governments, district municipalities and Koruson project stakeholders.
