African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) president Collen Malatji has married his longtime partner, Tsholofelo Sekete, in a traditional wedding ceremony in Tafelkop Boleu, Limpopo.
The couple exchanged vows on Saturday, September 26, surrounded by family, friends and a number of their political comrades.
Among those who joined the celebrations was ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula, who not only attended the wedding but also delivered a speech during the celebrations.
Mbalula later took to social media to give his followers a glimpse of the special occasion, sharing pictures and videos from the wedding.
In one post, he congratulated the newlyweds, writing:
“Thlolo and Tsholo, may your home be a place of rest and renewal, a harbour sturdy enough for the storms and open enough for the winds of adventure.”
In a separate post, Mbalula described the wedding as a celebration of love, commitment and the beginning of a new chapter for the couple.
“Today, we had the honour of celebrating the beautiful union of the African National Congress Youth League President, Cde Collen Malatjie, and his wife, Tsholofelo Sekete, whose wedding took place in Tafelkop Boleu, Limpopo,” he wrote.
He also turned to scripture to mark the occasion, quoting Proverbs 18:22:
“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord.”
Traditional wedding follows lobola ceremony
The wedding comes after the couple’s formal journey towards marriage, which included a three-day lobola ceremony in January.
Sekete has largely maintained a low public profile despite Malatji’s position in the ANC Youth League. The couple have been together for several years and share a child.
Malatji, 33, was elected unopposed as ANCYL president at the league’s 26th National Congress in July 2023. He had previously risen through ANC structures in Ekurhuleni and became involved in student politics as a teenager.
